CHAMBER BOARD BUSINESS
At their regular monthly board meeting the board of directors conducted the following business:
a Approved and/or accepted: the current financial statements, 2007 audit committee’s report; 2007 budget; CD investment of $10,000 for 12 months pending bids; 6 sets of banner brackets; and 3500 3rd edition “Historic Ellsworth Kansas – A Guide to Merchants & Events” brochures for distribution to Kansas tourism sites and area locations.
a Discussed a merge with Smoky Hill Development Corporation with no action taken.
a Reviewed a possible fund raising event for the Cowtown Days Festival pending acceptance and approval of the City Celebrations Committee.
a Received a report from the director regarding the proposed scenic byway, “Prairie Trail Scenic Byway” being developed by the “Friends of Maxwell” committee. It appears there may be a glitch in the Chamber securing permission to extend the byway from its planned ending at the Jct of 141 and 140. The director will be exploring options.
a Recognized Kelvi Peschka, Lux Interiors, 122 N. Douglas as a new chamber member.
a Discussed preliminary plans for the annual meeting scheduled for March. (See Governor below)
Governor
The only information the board of Director’s had at their monthly meeting was that our invitation to Governor Kathleen Sebelius to be our annual meeting speaker had been favorably received. A commitment from her scheduling staff indicated that the week of March 26th was under consideration. On Friday a confirmation was received for Monday, 26th. The board’s preliminary plans are for a similar format as last year for Senator Pat Roberts. Ticket sales will be available for Chamber members on a first call basis and later to the public. Tickets will be $15 for members and $20 for the public. The high school commons will be the site for the reception, banquet and business meeting. The Governor’s speech will held in the Performing Arts Center. Tickets for that event ONLY will be $10 in advance, $12 at the door. Additional details will be forthcoming. Mark your calendars and make plans to attend.

TELEPHONE PROBLEMS
Although I recently installed a new telephone system, I continue to experience a call-in problem. I have had the AT&T serviceman check our system at the switching central and our office here without any observable problem. However, I had a board member call 6 times over a five hour period recently without getting a busy signal or the answering service after a 4th ring. If any of you try to call the Chamber and do not receive the busy signal or recording, document the date and time and please let me know. If I have a sufficient response I may have to replace the phone again.
