GoldenOak is helping Healthy Acadia to raise funds for food security. This event will support Healthy Acadia’s Downeast Gleaning Initiative, a farm-based food collection and donation project that feeds people experiencing hunger with surplus nutritious produce.

Healthy Acadia’s Gleaning Initiative organizes the collection of fruits and vegetables from local farms and markets for distribution to food pantries, school backpack programs, community meal programs, and other agencies. This work addresses the significant economic barriers that many people in our community face when it comes to accessing healthy food. Since 2013, we have gleaned nearly 228,000 pounds of food across Hancock and Washington counties. By redirecting fresh produce, we reduce food waste on farms and ensure that community members who are most in need, including children, have the opportunity to maintain a healthy diet, reduce diet related disease, and perform well in school.

GoldenOak is an emerging sound in New England folk music, made up of sibling musicians Zak and Lena Kendall, joined by Mike Knowles and Jackson Cromwell. Considered to be ambassadors of the Maine Folk Scene, GoldenOak has earned a nomination as “one of Portland’s most important upcoming bands” by Dispatch Magazine. The bands most recent EP “Foxgloves” was voted “EP of the Year” by the Portland Music Awards.
